Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Slides into Toronto, ON for the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 11-16

April 5, 2023 – Returning to Toronto, ON, the world’s top curlers are ready to rock the Princess Auto Players’ Championship – the fifth event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season. Taking the ice at the Mattamy Athletic Centre from April 11-16, Sportsnet is set to deliver exclusive TV coverage and streaming of the international premier curling event beginning Thursday, April 13 on Sportsnet, Sportsnet ONE, and via live stream on SN NOW.
The Princess Auto Players’ Championship will feature 12 of the top men’s and 12 of the best women’s teams from across the globe competing for the crown jewel of the Grand Slam season. Top teams include defending champions Team Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE) and Team Mouat (Stirling, SCO) and reigning Olympic gold medallists Team Edin (Karlstad, SWE). The event will also include must-watch Canadian fan-favourites, including Team Gushue (St. John’s), Team Homan (Ottawa), Team Bottcher (Edmonton), and Team Jones (Winnipeg). Broadcasting live from the Mattamy Athletic Centre in the heart of Toronto, Sportsnet’s expert broadcast team is set to deliver exclusive insight and analysis. Veteran play-by-play announcer Rob Faulds is set in the broadcast booth alongside celebrated Canadian Olympic medallists and curling analysts, Kevin Martin, Mike Harris, and Joan McCusker. Olympic gold-medallist Jennifer Jones will also be returning to the booth for select broadcasts throughout the event.
Prior to the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, teams last met at the Co-op Canadian Open – the fourth event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season – in January where Team Bottcher (Calgary, AB) and Team Fujisawa (Kitami, JPN) took home the crowns in Camrose, AB.
In addition to the on-ice competition in Toronto, the race for the 2022-23 Pinty’s Cup, a season-long competition to accumulate points according to team performance at each Grand Slam event, will also conclude at the end of this week’s event. The highest total points of the top four men’s and women’s teams will capture a share of the $300,000 Pinty’s Cup Bonus Pool. Current standings can be found here.
